A movie showing some of 2020’s most significant moments can create a sense of shared community, collective joy, and collective relief for people who have had a rough time with it in the year’s first half. Such is the case with Kayallah Jones, a 21-year-old who has become a viral sensation.
Jones had been looking for work for months, but his efforts had been fruitless owing to the impact of COVID-19 on companies and jobs. Jones, who had been without a house for the previous two years, was similarly ready for a change.
When she learned about the opening, Jones jumped at the chance to work at Decatur, Georgia’s The Spot Sports Bar and Grill. Her charisma drew Dakara Spence to immediately recruit her as a waitress at the sports bar and restaurant. Security cameras caught a particularly joyful moment in the new hire’s departure from the interview.

Jones’ joy was palpable as soon as she was out of sight in the parking lot. In the silent surveillance footage, she enters the parking lot and pauses before going away. A glance around is followed by a brief but energetic “happy dance” as Jones shows her delight. As she walks away, she unexpectedly pauses and stares at the ground.
Spence (who was immediately enchanted and happy) published the CCTV clip on Instagram after seeing Jones’ moment.
On TikTok and Twitter, the video has been seen more than 20 million times. Spence and Jones appeared on Ellen and have gotten overwhelming support in the days after the posting of the video, giving yet another illustration of the life-changing impacts when a dance video went viral on social.
