Red Statues of Putin Riding a Tank Pop Up in Parks Around the World

Red sculptures of Vladimir Putin have appeared in different parts of the world, specifically in parks in big cities like Paris, Barcelona, and New York City. The statues showcase Putin riding a small tank.

These statues are the work of James Colomina, a French artist whose characteristic pieces are red sculptures as a form of social criticism. The figures appeared five months after the war between Russia and Ukraine started.

The French artist has been posting the pictures through his social media accounts. All of them demonstrate the Russian leader sculpture. The first image was released in late June. The photos show children playing with the statue, unaware of the meaning behind them, and inadvertently contributing to the message that the artist preaches.

Besides the color red, children are also typical in Columina’s pieces. Another of his statues depicts a child wearing a gas mask, while another one portrays a child hugging a gun that shoots out a rose. All the sculptures share the same characteristic: they are built in bright red material and placed in public spaces where people will be more than likely to notice.

Colomina said that, as an artist, he feels it is his responsibility to comment on the consequences of war and that the conflict between Ukraine and Russia moved him.

French artist James Columina placed several red sculptures of Vladimir Putin riding a small tank in different parks around the world.
