Objects We Thought Were Black Holes May Actually Be Wormholes

New research conducted by a team of physicists at Sofia University in Bulgaria suggests that certain objects could be wormholes “disguised” as blackholes. The study was published in the journal New Scientist.

Wormholes are ” tunnels ” connecting two distant parts of the universe. Blackholes have remained mysterious over the years, as they “glob up” matter and don’t let it escape in any way. However, scientists have always wondered where all that matter goes once the blackhole “absorbs” it.

Scientists have speculated about the existence of “white holes,” which would be where black holes lead. These objects would expel particle streams and radiation.

The new study suggests that the combination of both ends could be what we know as a wormhole. In fact, it could be an Einstein-Rosen bridge. Scientists believe that the latter concept can stretch to any point in space and time and even “rewrite” the laws that we know in the modern world.

The research describes how a wormhole’s “throat” could actually look like a black hole. An example would be Sagittarius A*, which scientists believe is located in the center of the Milky Way, which is the galaxy that contains our Solar System.

A research paper published via Physical Review D says that it is nearly impossible to differentiate the matter discs that swirl around a wormhole’s edge from those found in a black hole. It was possible to obtain all this new information thanks to the new computer model the team has developed.

According to the same study, there would only be a 4 percent difference between the light polarization that a black hole and a wormhole emit – at least in the model the scientist use.

The team says that it’s likely that they’ll discover more ways to differentiate between a black hole and a wormhole in the near future. However, the main limit we have right now is technology, as we are unable to observe black holes directly.

There are two options when it comes to studying black holes. It’s possible to use a high-resolution telescope (more than you imagine) or get swallowed by one.
