A Spotlight on Some of the Best Table Saws 2022
Table Saws Reviews
SKIL SAW SPT99T-01 8-1/4 Inch Portable Worm Drive Table Saw
- Legendary worm drive gearing offers maximum torque for ripping applications
- Precision rack and pinion system makes fence adjustments quickly and smoothly for accurate cuts
- Light weight and compact footprint make it easy to move around the jobsite
- Tear through sheet goods and slice up to 3x with the 2-5/8 inch depth of cut and 25 inch rip capacity
- All-metal construction delivers legendary durability
The SPT99T-01 is compact, powerful, and has a nice finish. SKIL packs a ton of power and capacity into a small package.
Its worm drive increases the blade power and cuts depth. Normally, you can’t cut as deep with a direct drive motor positioned axially on the blade. The diameter of the motor may reduce your chances of achieving your desired cut depth. The worm drive permits the table saw’s engine to be positioned downward, improving the blade cut depth.
With the fence in place, this machine can cut 25 inches to the right of the blade. Twenty-five inches is enough to cut big sheets. The SPT99T-01 will easily handle an 8-by-4-foot sheet which requires a 24-inch cut on a table saw. That’s not terrible for a saw this size.
It’s worth noting that this table saw isn’t as good as the ones made by the best brands, but it doesn’t mean that SKIL has skimped on important features.
Additionally, because of the rack and pinion gear, the fence location is exact and parallel to the blade no matter where you decide to stop it within the 25-inch range described above.
DEWALT 10-in. Table Saw, 32-1/2-in. Rip Capacity (DWE7491RS)
- Your purchase includes one Dewalt table saw, 10inch 24-tooth carbide blade, rolling stand, push stick,...
- Other Specs: Max rip to left of blade – 22inch | Max rip to right of blade – 32-1/2inch | Max width...
- Rolling stand designed for easy set up and breakdown with excellent stability

- Features a 15.0A high torque motor with the power to cut pressure treated lumber and hardwoods
The DEWALT DWE7491RS table saw is a high-quality piece of equipment. If I’m being honest, it’s the finest table saw with a mobile stand solution available on our list. My opinion is based on how much power, how well it was built, how much cutting capacity it has, and how it works as a mobile device.
This tool comes with a 15-amp motor that spins faster at 4,800 RPM compared to its predecessors. The ripping quality appears to have increased marginally due to the faster blade speed. It has enough power to cut through a 3/4′′ plywood, 2x framework material, and a piece of Maple with ease.
An important part of this saw is its rack and pinion fence rail system. That has significantly boosted the performance and precision of this device. The fence can easily align with the blade and maintains its alignment.
Fence drift is eliminated by using rails on the front or rear of the saw to support it. DEWALT includes a miter gauge here; that isn’t the best but does its job well.
The sturdy mobile stand is one of the best in its class. It’s simple to assemble and quite sturdy, and I especially appreciate how compact it is when kept vertically. Compared to the DWE7490X, which comes with a scissor stand, this stand is worth the additional $100 investment.
Overall, this table saw is a strong performer to beat in this price range. Some of its features are only found in pricier models.

Table Saws Buying Guide
What are table saws?
Table saws have long since replaced the old hand saws. These are extremely powerful tools that manage to cut almost everything.
They are mainly used for making straight cuts, whether transverse, longitudinal, or mixed.
Each table saw has a powerful motor that drives a special cutting disc. In turn, the disk rotates at great speed and is ready to go through anything that stands in its way.
What distinguishes table from circular saws is their staticity and the results they can bring you.
What we mean is the table saw is conveniently positioned somewhere on your table. Usually, after that, the machine does not move more than its place, because it does its job just great.
The table saw provides you with much more accurate results compared to your hand competitor. This is because, in the case of a table machine, you move the workpiece to the rotating blade, not the other way around.
This allows you to follow the cut line much more precisely and achieve better results.
Usually, such machines are made of cast iron and are built on a smooth surface.
You can easily slide any processed board on it and bring it in the desired shape. Not too much is required of you. Careful selection and competent work are enough – the machine will do the rest.
What types of table saws are there?
Objectively speaking, table saws together with their hand cousins are a subspecies of circular saws in general. However, you will be surprised that they can also be both stationary and mobile.
In this section, we will try to introduce you to the features of different types of table saws. If you are aware of them, in any case, it will be easier to determine exactly what you need.
Portable table saws
As paradoxical as it may sound, in practice, there are portable table saws. These are saw machines that are specially designed to be placed on different work tables.
They are light and compact so that they can be positioned in different places. Models of this type can be found in three main varieties.
Some of the models you are likely to come across are designed to be placed on a table or other type of desktop.
Their construction is relatively light. This makes them especially popular among amateurs who from time to time want to embark on a do-it-yourself activity.
They are driven by a direct motor (driven by blades). In most cases, such models provide their users not only with their portability but also excellent value for money.
There is also the idea of larger models, which are popular as “compact” table saws. They are driven by small toothed belts and are quite similar to the so-called “contractors”.
This means that they consist of a worktop and a rotating blade protruding from the middle of the worktop. Usually, with the help of a movable platform, these models allow you to position the machined boards as you see fit.
What distinguishes them from the so-called “contractors” is the fact that the table of compact models is usually smaller.
On the other hand, there are models that are mounted on a special stand. They are larger than compact table saws and are commonly used by professional woodworkers.
Precisely because professionals are the target group of these models, they specialize in performing more difficult work tasks. They are produced stronger and therefore much more durable.
However, their frame remains relatively light and this contributes to their portability.
Stationary table saws
As you may have guessed, stationary table saws are not famous for their portability. These are usually more massive models, which, once installed, are not expected to go anywhere.
These table saws are again divided into three main types, each of which has its own characteristics.
We have already mentioned the so-called “contractors”. Well, you know that they have a table with the rotating blade of the machine coming out of the center.
This model again allows you to position the repeatedly processed object with the help of various movable elements just as you see fit.
The original “contractors” are designed specifically for professional use and are relatively rare today.
In any case, these are quite massive table saws, which, of course, makes them more stable. At the same time, however, their size allows you to process significantly larger objects with their help.
In turn, hybrid table saws are very similar to classic “contractors”. At the same time, however, they offer you a wide variety of diverse gadgets that you can find with a high-end table saw.
Most of these saws come with a closed design, but some models also offer a design with holes. This is to improve the collection of dust, splinters, and chips generated during operation.
However, the top table saws you can come across are, of course, the most expensive. They are really very heavy and massive, but on the other hand, they provide you with extremely stable working conditions.
They are usually made of cast iron and steel. This prevents vibrations that occur during operation and thus improves your accuracy.
Such models are designed only for really serious enthusiasts and true professionals. They are extremely durable and will serve you faithfully for years to come.
What to consider when choosing a table saw?
Well, you are already aware of the basic types of table saws. We are sure that you have identified exactly what you need.
However, the study is still pending. Table saws have a bunch of features and characteristics that you need to pay a really significant amount of attention to. Only then you will be able to get the best possible tool for your own purposes.
You should be aware of one thing – the size of your future table saw will determine the pieces of wood and the sizes you can process.
This is why the space you have on your table is extremely important.
If you get a small model, it may not work for you in many potential situations. An oversized table saw can leave you with too much space. So there is a potential danger that you have paid for something that you won’t end up using effectively.
And you realize how important it is to choose the right size of the platform through which you move wooden objects to the blade of your table saw.
The dimensions of the worktops of the smaller portable table saws are usually in the range of about 48 by 55 cm. The average dimensions vary from about 60 to 55 cm.
Of course, from now on the size of the workbenches can only grow. In many cases, different extensions are attached to the largest circular saws, which increase their size incomparably.
It is not uncommon to find a table saw with dimensions in the range of 70 by 150 cm or more.
By the way, keep in mind that many of the machines offer you the option of attaching additional extensions. In this way, you can significantly increase the size of your workspace and expand your work opportunities accordingly.
This happens extremely easily. In addition, if you have expanders, you can only use them when you need them. When you don’t need them, you can just put them aside and continue working without them.
Choose carefully and in any case, you will be satisfied.
Along with the table, the blade is generally one of the most important elements of a table saw. In practice, it can be said that the blade is something like a working center of the whole machine composition.
Naturally, it is the main intermediary between you, the processed object, and the job well done. That is why it is important not to compromise on its quality, but to get the best out of it.
Many factors determine the characteristics of a blade. However, its very features depend on its functionality, applicability, etc.
Of course, the number of teeth is important. However, their shapes and sizes are just as important.
At the same time, in no case should we miss the diameter of the blade itself, the depth at which it can penetrate, the speed at which it can rotate, the material from which it is made. Generally speaking, you need to be careful about what exactly a particular blade is used for before using it.
The standard blade diameter of table saws is about 25 cm. This diameter usually gives you about 8 cm depth of cut when cutting at right angles.
Of course, you can find both smaller and larger blades. The variety is there, so choose carefully according to what you need.
Usually, the teeth of the blades in table saws are made of carbide, carbon, or diamond tips. It is the strength of such materials that allows modern table saw blades to cut much more than ordinary wood.
The issue of blades in any cutting tool is extremely broad. That is why we advise you to carefully inform yourself about the specifics of a particular blade before you get it.
You already know which features to pay attention to. However, it is always best to consult a specialist before making a decision.
Engine and power
You probably guess that the power of your future table saw is directly dependent on the characteristics of its motor. Of course, the more powerful your machine, the better.
Since the power of such power tools on the market is usually estimated in watts, know that the more watts of the model you have identified, the more powerful it will be.
However, it is important to be aware of the characteristics of the engine itself, as the power produced depends directly on it.
In table saws, motors are generally divided into two types according to the specifics of the way they are driven. You will find models with directly driven motors as well as those with belt-driven motors.
Direct drive is common in portable models. In most cases, they have a universal motor that drives the blade directly.
Such models usually produce quite a lot of power but with higher noise levels.
They operate at a voltage of 120 V and usually reach about 2 hp. This is enough for any amateur or do-it-yourselfer. Will also do a good job for most professionals who need to change their work environment.
Belt-driven saws, in turn, are significantly more powerful. Such a drive is usually found in stationary models. An induction motor together with the help of a special belt transmits the power to the cutting disc.
Engines of this type usually manage to produce between 3 and 5 hp. in single-phase variants. In the three-phase version, however, their power extends between 5 and 7.5 hp. However, the three-phase models have to operate at a voltage of 240 V.
Belt motors can be positioned somewhere on the periphery of the machine composition. This prevents the collection of dust and wood in the mechanism. In addition, these motors are quieter and usually handle denser materials.
Rip fence and rip capacity
The table saw fence, also known as the “rip fence”, is what provides you with a cutting guide. It runs from the front to the back of the workbench parallel to the cutting plane of the rotating blade.
It is this feature of table saws that gives them a unique advantage over other types of saw tools.
It is definitely essential that the fence of your table saw be as stable as possible. It must lock the workpiece and prevent it from moving out of position.
The better and straighter your fence, the cleaner the cut will be.
Most table saws are equipped with a standard T-shaped rip fence. It will offer you quite a decent accuracy and this makes it suitable for any average user.
The adjustment of the cutting fence is carried out where the blade is intended to cut the processed material. In any case, without the fence, any form of cutting would be simply impossible.
However, some high-end models may not offer you a standard cutting fence. Instead, they will give you the opportunity to customize your own stance. Of course, the more personalized your tool is, the more effective its presentation will be.
As for the rip capacity – it is another important specificity of table saws. To determine this, you need to perform a few simple measurements.
First, measure the distance from the saw blade. Then measure the maximum distance that the fence goes to the right of your blade. This will give you the rip capacity of your own machine.
In any case, you will need at least 60 cm of rip capacity on the worksite. This is half the width of standard sheet material.
Either way, decide exactly what you need and you’re sure to get the job done right.
Addons and functionality
If you want your table saw to do its job as well as possible, it’s definitely worth paying attention to some basic addons.
Dustbins, for example, are something that many amateur craftsmen forget about. Dust may not bother you, but you need to be clear that it can seriously hamper your work process.
Not only that, the machine itself can be gradually slowed down by the accumulation of very fine dust particles. You can seriously damage yourself by inhaling fine wood.
That is why we advise you in any case to look for a model that gives you such an opportunity. Connect a vacuum cleaner or other type of vacuum to the dust chutes and we guarantee that your working environment will become much more favorable.
Keep in mind that if you still have to move your table saw around your worksite, specialized mobile stands will definitely save you a lot of trouble.
They will ensure the free movement of the table saw wherever you need it. So, of course, your job opportunities will only increase.
You can also get a special set of blades that purposefully make grooves in the wood you process. This will allow you to make several incisions at once, as long as you need something similar.
The blade guard is one of the key safety devices you can get. Many of the models you will come across during your search will probably go along with something similar.
The blade guard is placed around the blade and builds a barrier behind which your hands cannot fall.
Keep in mind that in some cases (especially when the wood is bulkier) you will need to remove the blade guard to do your job. When this happens, be extremely careful if you do not want to lose a finger.
How to use your table saw?
Well, you are already aware of all the basic features of table saws. Now we are calm and confident that you will surely get the most suitable machine for your own purposes.
Keep in mind, however, that buying such a power tool is not everything. Its use is yet to come.
Any electric saw can be especially dangerous. That’s why we want to give you some basic guidelines and tips to make working with your new acquisition as safe as possible.
Before using your table saw
Avoid wearing loose clothing, jewelry, and long sleeves. All this can be imperceptibly bitten by the rotating blade. For the same reason, you should not wear gloves while working.
Make sure the machine is in a stable position. At the same time, make sure that the blade guard is in place. You also need to make sure that your blade is in good condition, stable, and properly fixed.
Always wear safety goggles and some type of ear protection. You do not know where fine dust particles can get, and at the same time noise can be especially harmful.
Make sure that you are stable and read carefully the instructions from the manufacturer, which should go with the product.
While using your table saw
Of course, in the first place, never place your hands and fingers in threatening proximity to the cutting disc. You can use a stick or something else to push the workpiece through the blade.
Do not rush to release the workpiece until it is completely behind the back of the cutting disc.
Be sure to use the blade guard whenever possible. At the same time, make sure that the blade is at the correct height. This will ensure both your own safety and that of the device itself.
Make sure your work area is as clean as possible at all times. Everything unnecessary should not be on the table, as the contact between the rotating blade and most hard objects can cause uncontrollable consequences.
If you experience any malfunction in the machine, reduce the speed immediately and stop working.
When you have finished your work, carefully clean your workplace. Remove excess dust and take care of the complete condition of your faithful machine.
In any case, we are sure that you realize how dangerous it is to work with this type of machine. Be extremely careful and everything will be fine.
