Artist Tosses Colorful Rice To Create 3D Portraits of Pop Culture Characters in Mid-Air

There are many amazing and bizarre art forms out there. Many talented artists use all kinds of materials to create stunning visual masterpieces. We are still new to one form of art: tossed rice art. Maria Lynn, a Minnesota-based artist, and mom, is the one behind it. Maria Lynn creates portraits using colored rice grains, which are laid on a wooden board. The 3D portraits are then released into the air by her.

Lynn captures the moment in slow motion so viewers can see the rice motifs just before they are lost to the pile. Lynn can create any image using colored rice, from Winnie the Pooh characters to popular emojis. It takes patience to place each grain in the correct position. Lynn can playfully undo all her hard work once the image has been created by flipping the image into the air and watching gravity do its thing.

Lynn joked that she was the “CEO of Tossing rice art” and is a boss at her job. She describes her job as “just a mom making Rice Art.” We are here to make you smile.
